HSBI Adjunct Instructor Tracy L. Gray will share a brief presentation of Culturally Responsive-Sustaining (CR-S) education which is grounded in a cultural view of learning and human development in which multiple expressions of diversity are recognized and regarded as assets for teaching and learning. (New York State Education Department Definition). This vision is grounded in Gloria Ladson-Billings’ early work on culturally relevant teaching, specifically the three criteria for culturally relevant pedagogy she puts forth in Ladson-Billings (1995).

Tracy L. Gray is a champion of 21st-century learning worldwide who has impacted diverse educational landscapes from Connecticut to China. Beginning as a classroom teacher, Ms. Gray has held pivotal roles at Ethical Culture Fieldston School and The Carey School, focusing on curriculum development and student life. In 2013, she established the Sankofa Global Project, recognized by President Obama’s White House for its STEM education initiatives. Holding dual Master of Science Degrees, Tracy is an adjunct instructor at HSBI Bielefeld University and serves on the board of Science is Elementary. She leads the LeiLyn Group, guiding businesses, ducational institutions, and nonprofits through innovative programs.
